The Howard Family Announces the Passing of Billy Wilson Howard, Sr.
Laurel, MS – It is with profound sadness that the Howard family announces the passing of Billy Wilson Howard, Sr., founder and visionary leader of Howard Industries, Inc.
Mr. Howard was born on January 26, 1927, in Louisville, Mississippi, and lived a life defined by excellence, service, and leadership. A distinguished athlete and scholar, he attended Mississippi State University on a football scholarship, earning a degree in electrical engineering in just three years while lettering in football, basketball, and track. He was later inducted into the Mississippi State Sports Hall of Fame. Following his service as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Mr. Howard began his professional career at General Electric. In 1968, he founded Howard Industries, Inc. which under his leadership grew into a billion-dollar global manufacturing enterprise.
Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Howard was a committed civic leader and philanthropist. He served in numerous local, state, and national leadership roles and supported transformative educational and community initiatives throughout Mississippi. His many honors included Entrepreneur of the Year and induction into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame.
